Swim Team

The Greenwich Club, members only, swim team, The Greenwich Gators, is one of the long time standing traditions at the Greenwich Club; with 50+ years of successful history and fun behind it.  It is an introductory competitive swim and dive team for children ages 5-16.  Members of the swim team must be able to swim one length of the pool (25 yards) of freestyle in order to become a member.  Swimmers and divers will compete against others in the same age group as them which are listed below.

The season lasts from late June to early August, which includes practice Monday - Friday mornings, divided up by age group and ability and dual meets against local clubs on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.  Dual meets are a combination of both home and away swim meets.  Additionally the season wraps up in the first weekend of August with the championship swim meet, the All Pool Meet.

Besides being successful in the water, the Gators have great fun and show a huge amount of pride out of the pool.  Throughout the season there are special events meant just for the Gator swim team to show and grow our team spirit and have fun.  This is a fantastic opportunity for Greenwich Club members who are interested in getting their children involved in a fun, introduction to competitive swimming.  Not only will swimmers learn the basics of all four competitive swim strokes, but also will gain confidence, learn how to be a team player, and most importantly, begin a love of the lifelong sport of swimming.  Many of our current swimmers and Gator alumni, begin their competitive swimming careers here at the Greenwich Club and go on to compete at high school, club, YMCA, and even collegiate levels!

Please contact the swim coaches at greenwichgators@gmail.com if you have any further questions about the team.  Sign ups will begin on Memorial Day Weekend! The registration fee will be decided per child.  Suits for boys and girls may be ordered through the club.

We can email Greenwich Gator Swim Team Forms.   Send a request to thegreenwichclub@gmail.com or managerthegreenwichclub@gmail.com.

Please remember payment must accompany completed forms.

Greenwich Gator Swim Club 2018

We are very excited for summer 2018 for the Greenwich Club Gators. We hope our coaching staff will return for the 2017 season.  As head coach we have  Jennifer Lopez (Shawmut Aquatic Club) and Carly Deliberty.  Our assistant coaches on deck will be Nathaniel Wolfgang and Thomas Shaughnessy.  Our Dive team coach is Rachel Perrone.

There will be a lot of new and exciting changes that will benefit our summer club team.  We will be meeting with the Narragansett League to discuss our meet schedule in May.  We will be sending out the meet schedule as soon as we know on our end.

Our practice schedule will be as follows;

Monday-Friday 7:30 am to 8:30 am first morning session.  This session will be for our newer swimmers as well as some of our younger swimmers that do swim year round.

Monday-Friday 8:30 am to 9:45 am second morning session.  This session will be for the younger swimmers that compete year round and are able to complete a 50 of every single stroke (Fly, Back, Breast, Free) as well as our older swimmers.

The basic requirement to join will be that the swimmer needs to be able to complete one lap of freestyle without assistance or touching the bottom of the pool.  We will have assessment dates for any new swimmer that wishes to join the team.  That date will be TBD.  If you are a RETURNING swimmer and would like to be assessed before the first week of practice, you may do so and attend one of the assessment dates, however, for RETURNING swimmers you are not required to.

If you are a RETURNING swimmer and would rather wait for the first week of practice, we will decide what session you will be required to attend after the first week of practice.  We will be moving swimmers around so please be patient with us as the week goes on.

For now, we ask that 10 and unders attend the first morning session and 11 and overs in the second morning session.  (With some exceptions, please email us if you have any questions.)  Again, if you area a returning swimmer only and wish to know which session you would be placed in we welcome anyone to attend the assessment dates, owever, we only require NEWER swimmers to attend.

Our swim team sign ups are May 27th, 28th, and 29th from 10 am-2:00pm.  There will be coaches there to answer any questions you may have.

The Gators' Swim Team season 2017 schedule will be posted.

We have three home meets and three away meets.  We compete against Kendbrin, Sher-la-Mon and Gristmill.

The ALL Pool Meet date may be August 5th and 6th for swim.  You will be required to attend on the 6th if you make finals in the individual event and for relays.

Swim Team Splash Party will be July 10th 8pm-10pm.

Swim Team Spirit Night will be August 1st.

Swim Team Banquet will be August 7th.

All these dates are tentative and can be changed due to poor weather or other factors.

Swim Team fees will be determined and are payable upon registration.  We are asking that swimmers that have difficulty swimming two lengths of the pool freestyle buy a set of traning fins.  You can buy these at your local sports authority or online.

Gywn Andrews is also in the process with Elmwood Sports in setting up an online apparel store so we can order gear for the season.  If you have any questions please don't hesitate on emailing us.  If you know anyone else that may be interested in joining the team please refer them to our email.  We are looking forward to this season and we will see you on the team sign up dates.

Go Gators!
